How to use ready made curtains on a bay window

How can you use a ready made curtain on a bay window, under a bulk head ceiling,

on a curved track?

The best heading to use is the Pinch pleat, this pleat has a sewn in pleat which

gives the heading the support it needs.

The tricky bit is to use the right size hooks to get the heading to sit right underneath

the ceiling, (see below for hook size instruction).

This will help with light control and also will hide the track.

You must return the curtain back to the wall on either sides of the track so

that the light will be blocked.

The usual length of the ceiling to the floor in this situation is 213cm,

(check your ceiling height measurement before you buy the curtain).

The ready made pinch pleat curtains also come in the 213cm length.

The ready made curtains are not always even in the hem so it could sit on the

floor a bit.

I personally like the Pinch pleat curtains from Spotlight for this situation because the

pleats are sewn in at a shorter distance than the pinch pleat from Curtain Wonderland

but either one will work.

It takes a bit of training to make your curtain sit right, the main issue is pleats falling forward,

so you need to train the pleat, this will make the opening and shutting of the curtains easier.

You also need to train the curtain so that it falls into even folds.

The heading in the buckram is sometimes stiff like paper or it is soft, If the buckram feels like paper you can

fold the buckram forward and pinch in the crease, if it feels soft you have to iron the fold in the forward position.

Before and after training the buckram tape.

Example of how to crease (break) the buckram tape

How to check the size of the tape to see which hooks you need.

In the example below the tape is 10cm

The idea is that the top of the curtain sits just above the track nearly touching the ceiling,

if it sits a bit to high you can gently tug on the bottom of each pleat to get it at the right height.

I personally would also iron the curtains before you hang them, Check the ironing instructions

on the care code before ironing.

If you like to have curtains that look custom made you must train the heading and the curtains.

You can organize a custom made track if you don't have one, this can include installation or

for DIY, Curtain wonderland sell a bendable track, it is not corded.
